Assignment 5:

Own stories – Work-in-progress – add to Work-in-Progress GROUP on the intranet what you’re onworking and status, plus ETA/
CE Coverage:

Deadline: before next class – say 6 am next Weds.

Coordinators: 1. LISA and 2. CARMEN. These two have the power of approve/veto your CE coverage plans and are in charge of organisation – keeping track/assigning stories/ matching MM elements. Who, how, what, where etc

Lareina is i/c of pix cordination. She’ll message you separately. I’d like to emphasis tho that it is IMPORTANT to upload your pix to the vox-asia Flickr account and TAG them. Include as  much information as possible so your colleagues are not left scratching their heads about a pic — and can caption it accurately.

It is a good idea to note in the Flickr Metadata what the pic has been used for (ie the URL of any story it accompanied etc)

– – –

The half of the class who did not produce a first-hand news article — note: not a pick-up, not a backgrounder, not reportage via secondary sources — for the CE package last week must do so.

The other half will address backgrounders/work on further multimedia ways of presenting what we have so far (and can expect to get).

Note: the news article MUST be a multi-media article/effort. Team work (max 3) is permitted. Overlap is not permitted.

You will need to find out where and when  events are being held and get yourselves down to cover it/them.

Coordinators: 1. XXX and 2. xxxx (tba). These two have the power of approve/veto your CE coverage plans.

Please remember: If a picture is worth running ….. (finish off this cliche) …

These items must be of publication quality in an organ as august as the NYT or TOL and MUST comply with the style guide.

Suggestion: Each article needs an accompanying photo — but there is no reason that one team cannot also produce a photo gallery of items that might be of use to another team. You get CREDIT for cooperation — this isn’t a zero-sum exercise.

Welcome to Advanced Online Journalism

This is a hands-on course — much of the time you will be operating as journalists covering real news events (some of them live) throughout the semester.

Regard the DML as a newsroom, your instructors as your editors and yourselves as professional journalists.
